Rachel Weisz & “Agora” Nominated for 2010 Goya Awards!

Finally the official list for the spanish 2010 Goya Awards got released and wow Rachel and her new movie “Agora” are nominated for Best Actress, Best Film and Best Director. You can read the full list below and congratulation to Rachel. Keep fingers crossed that she wins and also gets nominated for BAFTA 2010.

Daniel Monzón’s prison drama Cell 211 and Alejandro Amenábar’s historical blockbuster Ágora (aka Mists of Time), with respectively 16 and 13 nominations, are the two leaders in the race for the 2010 Premios Goya (or Goya Awards), the Spanish Academy Awards. Actress Paz Vega and filmmaker Javier Fesser, accompanied by Academy president Alex de la Iglesia, made the announcements earlier today in Madrid.

Besides Cell 211 and Ágora, the two other best picture nominees are Fernando Trueba’s The Dancer and the Thief, Spain’s submission for the best foreign language film Academy Award, and Argentinean filmmaker Juan Jose Campanella’s Buenos Aires-set psychological thriller The Secret of Her Eyes — which, curiously, is also up for the best Spanish-language foreign film. Pedro Almodóvar’s Broken Embraces received five nominations, including a best actress nod for Penélope Cruz and best original screenplay for Almodóvar.

Among the acting nominees are Argentinean veteran Ricardo Darín for The Secret of Her Eyes, Oscar winner Rachel Weisz for Ágora, Maribel Verdú for Tetro, Lola Dueñas for Yo, también, Luis Tosar for Cell 211, and Jordi Mollá for El cónsul de Sodoma.

Actress Rachel Weisz has been voted the woman who men would most like to marry.

The star of The Mummy and The Lovely Bones beat Keira Knightley into second place, while Kate Winslet was third. Jordan, the pneumatic glamour model, received just one vote in the poll by Esquire magazine.

Rachel Weisz for The Spanish Academy’s 2010 Goya Award

The Spanish Academy’s 2010 Goya Award nominations — that’s Spain’s Oscars — will be announced on Jan. 9. Among the potential nominees are Broken Embraces, director-screenwriter Pedro Almodóvar, actor Lluís Homar, actress Penélope Cruz, and supporting actress Blanca Portillo. In Broken Embraces, which has won a few awards from US critics’ groups, Penélope Cruz plays a secretary/sex worker who becomes her wealthy boss’ lover only to fall for a film director (Homar). Cruz has been touted as a potential best actress Oscar nominee, but this year her chances are better with the Spanish Academy.

Alejandro Amenábar’s box-office hit Agora is another strong possibility in the best picture and best director categories. Starring Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz — a possible best actress Goya nominee — Agora is set in 4th-century Egypt, where a Christian slave (Max Minghella, Anthony Minghella’s son) falls in love with his master, atheist philosopher Hypatia of Alexandria.

Juan José Campanella’s political thriller The Secret of Her Eyes is a third possibility for best picture and best director, in addition to a quite likely best actor nod for Argentinean actor Ricardo Darín. Set in Buenos Aires, The Secret of Her Eyes chronicles the entangled attempts to find the murderer-rapist of a married woman. This Spanish-Argentinean co-production is Argentina’s submission for the 2010 best foreign language film Academy Award.
