New Upcoming Project: “The Legacy of Luna”
Sep

2008

I just told you that there are no latest news but Roque emailed me and it seems like Rachel got another new project. Read more about it below and keep checking back to get the latest news on the new movie called “The Legacy of Luna”.

At the Toronto junket for Rian Johnson’s excellent crime caper movie The Brothers Bloom, which is premiering at the annual Toronto International Film Festival next week, Rachel Weisz told ComingSoon.net that the next film she does will be the eco-drama Luna, based on Julia Butterfly Hill’s autobiography “The Legacy of Luna” about a woman who lives in the branches of a Redwood tree for two years to protect the forest from the lumber companies.

That’s not such big news because Weisz has been attached to star in the movie for over a year, but originally Canadian director Deepa Mehta, whose film Water kicked off the festival two years ago, was supposed to direct the film, but apparently one of the film’s writers, Laurie Collyer, has taken over directing the film as well, according to Weisz.

Collyer’s previous film and directorial debut was the intense indie drama SherryBaby, which featured a critically-acclaimed performance from Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Weisz said that the film will start shooting in December or January, but that she’s spoken to Julia at length on the phone and plans to visit the Redwoods in Humboldt (where the film will presumably be shot) in November. Weisz just finished shooting Alejandro Amenábar’s historic epic Agora, set in 300 AD Alexandria, and we’ll have more with the actress before the platform release of The Brothers Bloom on December 19.

“The Brothers Bloom” Official Site & Stills
Sep

2008

I´m very sorry for the lack of updates but you may noticed that there are currently not many news on Rachel. Our great visitor Roque informed me that the Official Website of “The Brothers Bloom” just opened. Be sure to check it out! He also sent me four new pictures including three new stills from “The Brothers Bloom” and one old picture of Rachel. Hope you enjoy it!

The release date of “The Brothers Bloom” has changed. Read about it below.

Rian Johnson’s (BRICK) second movie, THE BROTHERS BLOOM has unfortunately been bumped back from an October 24th release to a limited release on December 19th, followed by a wide release on January 16th 2009.

“There were a few reasons for the move: October and November are crowded as hell, it’s a tough tough market, especially for a smart unique film like ours, and we’d have a week or two at the most to sink or swim. Whereas concentrating on a couple markets for awards consideration in December, then pushing the wide in the more open January slot just seemed like a better use of resources.”

At Venice Film Festival
Aug
28
2008

Darren Aronofsky returns to Venice after the lukewarm reception here two years ago of his New Age movie “The Fountain,” starring his partner Rachel Weisz. His new in-competition offering will be “The Wrestler,” with Mickey Rourke playing a pro who has been forced into retirement by health problems, and makes a comeback with the aid of an ex-stripper (Marisa Tomei) to fight a final match with his arch rival.

PS. I haven´t found any more information so I´m not sure if Rachel and Darran will visit Venice this year.

Director Rian Johnson Talks About “The Brothers Bloom”
Aug

2008

Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz + Academy Award winner Adrien Brody + Academy Award nominee Rinko Kikuchi + Mark Ruffalo + writer/director Rian Johnson (the mastermind behind Brick) = The Brothers Bloom, a con-man comedy with a little romance thrown in. Haven’t heard much about this Summit Entertainment release yet? You soon will as Johnson’s second feature film marches toward its October 24, 2008 release date with buzz building – for a good reason. Based on about 30 minutes worth of screened footage, The Brothers Bloom moved way up on my personal list of end of the year films I can’t wait to see.

Summit Entertainment and writer/director Johnson invited About.com to a special edit bay visit where Johnson was hard at work putting the finishing touches on The Brothers Bloom. The first bit of footage Johnson offered up was the opening six minutes of the film, which sets up the backstory of brothers Steven (Mark Ruffalo) and Bloom (Adrien Brody). Narrated by Ricky Jay, the scene shows the beginnings of the brothers’ lifelong fascination with cons. Steven’s really the instigator, mapping out detailed stories of how each con will go down, with Bloom simply going along with his brother and playing out his role in Steven’s plans.
