Rachel Weisz anxious about playing Jackie Kennedy
May

2010

Actress Rachel Weisz is already feeling the huge responsibility of playing Jacqueline Kennedy in husband Darren Aronofsky’’s new film – because she’’s a Brit portraying an American icon.

The Mummy star will be play the role of Jackie and the film will portray Jackie’s life and how she coped with her husband President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963.

Despite being eager to start shooting for the film, she can’t help being a little anxious as to whether the American audience will accept a Brit actor playing the role of an American icon that everyone loved so much.

“It’’s a recent project so the script is being developed and it’’s a great script. I will have to start to do some reading,” The Daily Express quoted her as saying.

“Jackie Kennedy is American royalty and a 20th century icon, so it’’s extremely scary, daunting, challenging and a huge responsibility. I don”t know exactly how I will play her yet because I haven”t started really working on it, but of course it’’s a big responsibility,” she added.

2010 NYDG Foundation Rx Haiti Benefit Gala And Auction (23)

Last night, Mick Jagger went out on a limb, so to speak, for girlfriend L’Wren Scott.

Jagger made a rare appearance at a rooftop benefit (atop the Scholastic Books building) in Soho to help raise money for Haitians who’ve lost limbs in the January earthquake. Scott is old friends with crusading doctor, David Colbert, who’s a dermatologist to the stars. His group is called NYDG Foundation: Rx Haiti.

And the stars who did show up included Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts. It was hoped that Jude Law and Sienna Miller might materialize, but excuses were made: Jude was on a plane back to England.

And what of Mick, besides graciously digging in for Haiti? He’s on his way to Cannes for the re-release of “Exile on Main Street” and the showing of a new short documentary that stitches together pieces of unseen footage from Rolling Stones tapes including the legendary “Cocksucker Blues.”

Six held-back songs were added to the new “Exile.” Mick told me his favorites are “Plundered My Love” — a “Tumbling Dice” companion– and the bluesy, gospelish “I’m Not Signifying.” The other new old tracks include “Pass the Wine (Sophia Loren),” “Dancing in the Light,” “So Divine (Aladdin Story),” and the sublime “Following the River.”

Inquisitive actress Rachel Weisz

2010

Rachel Weisz became an actress to find out more about people.

The ‘Agora’ star – who studied English at the prestigious Cambridge University – admits one of her favourite things about her profession is the research she carries out into her characters. She said: “I liked acting because I love to ask people questions.

“I like knowing about people and trying to imagine myself in other people’s shoes and other people’s skins. I do that all the time.”

Rachel, 40, also spoke about her marriage to ‘The Wrestler’ director Darren Aronofsky – with who she has three-year-old son Henry – insisting the 41-year-old filmmaker is nothing like people expect from the subject matter of his movies.

She explained: “Seeing his films, you’d think he is this weird, dark, intense guy. But I don’t live with a dark person. He’s really good at life, very good at going to the park and having a good time. “He’s also very organised. He doesn’t live in chaos. His parents are teachers and they have an easy sense of order and discipline.”

Fans of Rachel Weisz, the English actress who won an Oscar in 2006 for her role in “The Constant Gardener,” will be pleased to know she is looking for more theater projects.

Talking to Speakeasy on Sunday after winning the best-actress prize at London’s Laurence Olivier theater awards for her role in “A Streetcar Named Desire,” Weisz said: “I am waiting to be offered a role in plays.”

She recalled how she started off in theater when she was in college going around trying to get people to come and see her show. “We were really happy if five people showed up,” she said speaking to reporters at London’s iconic Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane. “So this [theater] is where I began.”

The actress’s portrayal of Blanche DuBois in the Tennessee Williams play has been praised by critics. She also said she is working with Daniel Craig in Toronto in the Jim Sheridan thriller “Dream House”.
